Choosing a golf club is not as easy as looking at the price tag. I have to admit that the brand name clubs which usually cost more have a lot of technology in them and a lot of technology is used to produce them, and they usually look great, but that doesn’t mean they are the right choice for you.
The most popular and effective design for all the top golf irons nowadays is the cavity back design. This means they add extra metal around the edge of the back of the head, and there is usually more metal right at the bottom, but there is a cavity between that weight and the back of the club face. The extra weight around the edge helps to stiffen the head so it doesn’t twist on impact and increases the size of the sweetspot, while the weight near the bottom helps you get the ball up into the air. Most irons are a cavity back design at the moment, which means there is not that much variety when choosing your irons.
Yet with drivers then the manufacturers have a lot more room to play around with them and suddenly you find them coming out with all sorts of crazy technology to help your game. The square driver caused quite a stir when it first came out, the idea behind it is that you give a lot of strength to the club face by having the extra support and weight in the far corners making the square shape, then the face does not twist on impact and the sweetspot is massive. Or you have adjustable drivers with weights you can shift around to help combat that vicious hook or slice you suffer with, there are even ones with two faces (one inside the head) to help your shot.
